The Rescue

About

A rescue dog. A grumpy neighbor. One very bad idea that turns into something else entirely.

Sophie is good at taking care of people. It’s her job, her habit, and possibly her undoing. Dogs, neighbors, and anyone in need tend to find her. Saying no rarely does.

When a tiny French bulldog needs a foster home and Sophie’s lease strictly forbids it, she turns to the least logical solution: Beck, her quiet, unsmiling neighbor who avoids conversation, commitment, and anything with fur. He gives every indication that he wants a simple, contained life—and absolutely no dogs in it. Naturally, he agrees to help. Just for one night.

Beck is wounded in ways he keeps carefully hidden. Haunted by a past he refuses to discuss, he’s built his life around control and emotional distance. Letting a dog—and Sophie—into his carefully ordered world was never part of the plan.

Getting attached could cost Sophie her freedom. Letting Sophie in could dismantle the life Beck has worked hard to survive.

The Rescue is a slow-burn romance about quiet kindness, poor decisions made for good reasons, a rescue dog with unfortunate timing, and two guarded hearts discovering that healing the deepest scars is rarely neat, fast, or convenient.
